Every time I read Josh Parnell’s dev logs, I feel inadequate and ecstatic. His enthusiasm is invigorating and fills me full of wonder and my stomach becomes filled to the brim with that butterfly feeling. I could leap and exclaim and be full of explosive, girly-giggle-laced vigor. I would, if my knee would not scream “WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!” afterward.
There are so many ideas that I have for scrib, CCARPS, and other related projects, that come to resurface after reading through a week of his logs. My coding itch increases and I feel guilty for having to hold it at bay — I made a promise that I would not work during the weekends, and I still have held to it. I really should remember to read these amazing things in Monday mornings, so that I get this adrenaline-charged shot to my coding receptors when I can use it.
If there is one thing that I have learned from the dev logs, it is just how important it is to focus and to take time to brainstorm and plan. I used to be pretty amazing with planning my work week as the first Order of Business… I really should start doing that again. So, I have.
This weekend I had to forcibly remove CCARPS papers from my desk. Every time I would look over at them, I’d have this urge to just fix one little thing. Only, I know better. I know that it ends up being like playing Civilizations or other “just one more turn”-evoking games. Instead of working on them, I brought my whiteboard up from downstairs, and have been writing bulleted lists of things that I could be doing (without allowing myself to edit it). I have a sizeable amount of things ready to work on this coming week because of this.
It hasn’t helped reduce the itch to work. I feel a coding binge coming on soon. (Can it really be a binge, though, if one’s “coding binge” really is the “normal state” of my being?)
…must… not… work…
I’m still sitting here excitedly and with a butterfly-filled stomach. Oh, I hope this relents; I would like to go to bed soon, so as to not be a total pickle tomorrow.
This is the hardest weekend I have had in the six months since it was declared that “Sina shall not work on weekends.” I’m desperately jonesing to get some coding in.
Do you have any dev (b)logs that you read? Please share them with me so that I can create an amazing “Read this in the morning” feed! ♥
